AI can now be used to create highly realistic fake videos, images, and audio of real people saying or doing things they never said or did. These are called 'deepfakes.' A proposal would require that all such AI-generated content be clearly labeled as such.

Arguments For & Against

Pro Argument

Deepfakes can damage the reputations of real people and spread dangerous misinformation. Labeling them clearly prevents people from being deceived, protects individuals from having false statements attributed to them, and helps preserve trust in authentic media.

Con Argument

Existing defamation and fraud laws already address harmful deepfakes. New labeling requirements create unnecessary regulatory burdens on creative industries and restrict legitimate artistic expression.
